Wanger Investment Management’s investment philosophy is based upon three basic principles:

1. We invest in businesses… not securities. At Wanger, we believe that security analysis goes far beyond market price. By thoroughly researching fundamental factors such as the firm’s management team, current initiatives and competitive edge, we are best able to evaluate a company’s financial health. This insightful approach allows us to identify the best long-term prospects for inclusion in our strategies.
2. We identify unique opportunities… not common trends. Our roots in fundamental research lead us to avoid those obvious choices found on Wall Street and focus on those companies that have been overlooked by the mainstream media. By taking the road less travelled, we continue to discover exciting opportunities that elude the eyes of Wall Street analysts.
3. We are patient investors… not market timers. The Wanger portfolio team has created strategies designed with the long term investor in mind. We realize that there are companies whose true values are not yet recognized by the broad markets. By investing in these companies early and waiting patiently, we expect to be rewarded once the intrinsic value is reflected in the marketplace.
